Hear what actor Ben Galpin who plays Boy has to say about Baba Yaga and discover his favourite parts of the show.
What is your role in the production of Baba Yaga?
I play the role of Boy in the show. He loves insects, magic and making plans.
What does that mean in terms of your contribution to the show?
Boy is one of the twins in the show. Together with his sister, they tell the whole story of their encounter with Baba Yaga. There are lots of characters in the adventure, but only two actors, so it means we do lots of storytelling, puppetry and play other people and even some animals!
What is your favourite part of the show?
One of my favourite parts is when Boy wakes up to find a delicious breakfast, the description of all the yummy food he’s looking at always makes me hungry! I also enjoy getting to attempt some magic tricks onstage, even if Girl doesn’t think Boy’s magic is very good…
What do you hope audiences will experience when they come to see the show?
I hope they’ll have enjoyed an hour of non-stop storytelling, laughs and adventure; as well as having had some scares and thrills along the way.
Why do you think this is an important story for children and families now?
The show invites our audience to enter the troubling and dark world that the Twins find themselves in, but from the comfort of a safe auditorium. There are echos throughout history of the journey the Twins have had to undertake, and I hope the children and families who see the show will empathise with our heroes’ troubles as well as sharing in their triumphs.
