Theatre Hullabaloo secures 53% funding uplift from Arts Council England to bring more Creativity to Children and Families
Date: 4th November 2022
Theatre Hullabaloo, the North East’s specialist producer of theatre for children and young people, is celebrating the news that it has been included in the Arts Council’s National Portfolio of Organisations (NPO) for 2023 – 2026.
The organisation will receive just under £1,170,000 over the next 3 years to deliver a high-quality programme of theatre and creativity, with a particular emphasis on work for younger children and their families. This funding constitutes a 53% uplift enabling the organisation to grow new programmes to meet the needs of local communities.
Confirmation of this ongoing funding secures a programme of performance and play at The Hullabaloo, Theatre Hullabaloo’s flagship venue in Darlington and at Hullabaloo in the Park, their outdoor family arts festival.
The Hullabaloo is the only purpose-designed theatre venue for children and families north of London and offers a purpose-designed theatre space, creative play, family café and a broad range of creative opportunities for children from 0 – 10 years and their families.
Despite 18 months of Covid-19 closure, The Hullabaloo has welcomed more than 70,000 people to share wonderful performance and play since opening its doors in December 2017.
Theatre Hullabaloo’s Chief Executive & Artistic Producer, Miranda Thain, said: “Theatre Hullabaloo is proud to be part of Arts Council England’s National Portfolio and grateful to receive continued funding to bring quality theatre to children and families in our region and beyond.
The investment reinforces our position as a leader in culture and creativity in childhood and enables us to ensure that the work we do continues to reach those who will benefit from it most.
The Hullabaloo is a joyful place for our local families offering a wonder-filled programme of creativity to challenge the minds, inspire the imaginations and enrich the childhoods of our youngest audiences.”
Anne Besford, Chair of the Board of Trustees of Theatre Hullabaloo said: “Continued funding recognises Theatre Hullabaloo’s outstanding track record of delivering excellence in theatre and creativity for young audiences. We are delighted that this investment from Arts Council England will enable us to continue to grow the reach and impact of our ambitious programmes for children and young people, moving a step closer to ensuring that art and creativity can be part of everybody’s childhood.”
The Hullabaloo will be celebrating this festive season with a fantastic family show, How to Catch Star, based on the enchanting picture book by Oliver Jeffers which opens on 2nd December. Tickets are available from www.theatrehullabaloo.org.uk or via the box office on 01325 405 405 for performances up to and including Christmas Eve.
