24 Mar ’22

Discover who the wonderful cast of Baba Yaga are why they're excited to be part of the show.

Introducing Fran Burgoyne who plays ‘Girl’ in Baba Yaga:

Fran Burgoyne is an actor and voice artist. She very nearly got to play Girl two years ago, before the pandemic sent everyone home. Other stage work includes Lemons, Lemons, Lemons, Lemons, Lemons (Stonecrabs Theatre Co), Three Sisters (Union Theatre), Heartbreak House (Union Theatre). She has played the youngest sibling in the Railway Children and the oldest wife in Communicating Doors during the same rep season (Leatherhead and Swannage Rep), and the world’s worst tour guide in the ground-breaking immersive show Madhouse Re:Exit (Access All Area’s). An award-winning audiobook narrator, she can often be found talking to herself in a soundproof box.

What is your role in the production of Baba Yaga?
I play Girl. She likes gymnastics, bees, and being the oldest.

What does that mean in terms of your contribution to the show?
As an actor my job is to discover who Girl is, and how she would say the things she has to say. Then I just need to say those words in the right place and at the right time. Oh, and not break the set (sorry Ali).

What is your favourite part of the show?
I really love when we’re in Baba Yaga’s house. It’s pretty magical, a bit scary, and a quite silly.

What do you hope audiences will experience when they come to see the show?
I hope that we can take the audience on an adventure with Girl and Boy, to someplace weird and wonderful but oddly familiar. I hope they get excited for them, laugh with them, and feel their sadness’s too.

Why do you think this is an important story for children and families now?
I think stories that celebrate the resilience, wit and bravery of children might resonate with people, given the current world climate.
