Today, March 20th, is ASSITEJ World Day of Theatre for Children and is celebrated worldwide through the campaign Take a Child to the Theatre, inviting people across the globe to remember the unique impact that live theatre can have on the imaginations of children.
This global campaign advocates for the cultural entitlement of children to have access to spaces for creative play, performances, theatre and expression. It is particularly significant to Darlington based Theatre Hullabaloo who recently opened a flagship theatre venue for children, young people and families on Borough Road in Darlington.
Miranda Thain, Artistic Producer at Theatre Hullabaloo says “Taking a child to the theatre for the first time is a really special experience to share. We feel hugely privileged to welcome families and schools to The Hullabaloo to have those wonderful first theatre experiences that make you giggle, wonder, ask brilliant questions and share fantastic stories. Take a child to the theatre is a hugely important global campaign and we are proud that Darlington has such a wonderful resource for children’s theatre that is already being recognised internationally.”
“Our new venue, The Hullabaloo, is the only specialist theatre of its type north of London and is an inspiring place for children, young people and their families to play and learn. we have an amazing Spring programme of magical things to see and do that is truly child centred”
“We are proud to not only support World Day of Theatre for Children but to make wonderful theatre for children accessible throughout the rest of the year”
